Dorothea

The latest project from composer, singer, bandleader and two-time Grammy-nominated recording artist Ted Hearne, Dorothea is the collaboration behind the kaleidoscopic and lush post-pop songs embodying the pathos-riddled, darkly funny poems of Dorothea Lasky, with synth beats, rhapsodic textures and synthetic vocals of “Los Angeles based polymath” electronic musician Eliza Bagg.

The first iteration of this project, In Your Mouth was commissioned and premiered in November 2018 by Liquid Music and Walker Art Center, with generous support from Linda and Stuart Nelson. This was directed by Daniel Fish, with Thomas Dunn as lighting designer and Garth Macaleavy as sound designer.

The second iteration, renamed to Dorothea, was produced by CAP-UCLA as a live concert film at Theater at the ACE.

The third iteration of the project premiered at Festival Musica Strasbourg Sept 2023, and Carnegie Hall October 2023. This was directed by Ashley Tata with video and lighting by Thomas Dunn.

The full Dorothea act is a nine piece band of Ted Hearne, Taylor Levine, Ron Wiltrout, Ashley Bathgate, Diana Wade, Nathan Koci, Rohan Chander, and Solomon Dorsey.
